Little Traverse Wheelway Rides Again

On Friday September 27, I rode a bike for the first time in years along a glorious stretch of Little Traverse Bay on the Little Traverse Wheelway. The bike path is 26 miles running from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs. I along with my brother’s family rode the very scenic “Resort Bluff” section, between Petoskey and Bay Harbor. Part of the trail, from Petoskey to the Petoskey State Park, follows the path of what was once a walking and bicycling path in the 1880s and ‘90s and later tracks for the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad as well as the Chicago and West Michigan Railway.

Along the trail next to Magnus Park is “Nate N Nicks Little Library,” a free library with a take-a-book, return-a-book policy. For more info, check out their website which includes a U.S. map of all little libraries: http://littlefreelibrary.org/.

Sophia, my free-spirited niece riding double with her father, knows how to live and love life.
