November 21 at The Phillips Collection, DC Dupont Circle neighborhood. Renoir’s Luncheon of the Boating Party depicts the flirtations of friends and lovers as well as his new girlfriend tending to her lap dog.
The museum exhibited a collection of van Gogh on the third floor, my favorite artist in my favorite period, post-impressionism including Cezanne and Manet. The van Gogh exhibit highlighted his “repetitions” in which he painted the same scene several times based on an initial sketch.
On display were The Bedroom at Aries, The Road Menders, and The Poplars at Saint-Remy, among many.
Paintings hung on the walls without any barricades from viewers, save a few such as the Renoir above.
Kathleen’s birthday was today and I was her company.
