Met up with Paul and Jesse at the Big Hunt on Connecticut Ave after CSIS. One Yelp reviewer called it a “filthy diamond in the yupped-up rough of Dupont Circle” which fits the bill. All three of us are Miami grad school graduates and our circles overlapped. I had a Bell’s Two Hearted Ale out of Kalamazoo, Michigan and wings. We talked of Wyoming and camping and Hemingway’s Big Two-Hearted adventures, the type of conversation I haven’t had in a while. Up on the rooftop, we saw the clouds roll in and the air electrify and it was time to leave.
I shared with Paul my thoughts on the CSIS panel discussion “Decoding China’s Emerging ‘Great Power’ Strategy in Asia.” I haven’t quite figured out why anyone attends.
